Corporate employee quits job to build thriving water business

Published:

Bengaluru: A social media post claiming that a former corporate employee left an ₹11 lakh annual salary to start a water purification business in his hometown has gone viral, prompting discussions on whether small businesses solving everyday problems can outperform traditional corporate careers.

The story was shared on X by user Ankit Pandey, who said his friend chose to leave his Bengaluru-based corporate job and return to his hometown to start a drinking water business on family-owned land.

Business built around an everyday need

According to the post, the entrepreneur invested in a water purification plant and now supplies clean drinking water to nearly 300 homes and shops across multiple residential colonies.

Pandey claimed the business delivers around 300 water cans daily, charging ₹30 per can. With a reported daily turnover of about ₹9,000, the monthly revenue is estimated at approximately ₹2.7 lakh.

Since the business operates from family-owned property, it reportedly incurs no rental expenses.

Claimed profit sparks online discussion

The X post estimated monthly operating costs at around ₹15,000 for electricity and water purification, along with another ₹20,000 for transportation. Based on these figures, the business reportedly earns a monthly profit of about ₹2.35 lakh, translating to nearly ₹28.5 lakh annually—more than double the entrepreneur’s previous corporate salary.

Pandey concluded that success does not always come from prestigious jobs, writing that the best business is often one that consistently solves a daily problem rather than the most glamorous one.

Internet praises practical entrepreneurship

The post received widespread attention, with many users highlighting the growing demand for clean drinking water as a promising business opportunity.

Several commenters said utility-based businesses often provide stable income because they address essential daily needs. Others pointed out that while the reported profits appeared attractive, building a loyal customer base, maintaining timely deliveries and managing logistics are critical to long-term success.

The claims shared in the viral post have not been independently verified. However, the story has fuelled a broader conversation on entrepreneurship, financial independence and the growing appeal of businesses focused on solving practical, everyday problems.
