8 Killed, 2750 Injured In Lebanon After Pagers Explode

Published:

A series of coordinated explosions across Lebanon has claimed the lives of at least eight people and left 2,750 others injured, according to Lebanon’s Health Minister, Firass Abiad. The blasts, caused by handheld pagers detonating simultaneously, have plunged the nation into shock.

Health Minister Abiad further revealed that 200 of the injured remain in critical condition, with hospitals across the country scrambling to treat the massive influx of casualties. Over 150 hospitals are currently providing medical care to the victims.

Hezbollah, which holds significant political and military influence in Lebanon and is supported by Iran, has pointed fingers at Israel, claiming the explosions mark the “biggest security breach” it has ever faced. The group alleges that Israel is responsible for infiltrating its communications network, with all the pagers reportedly exploding simultaneously.

Lebanon’s National News Agency described the event as an “unprecedented enemy security incident,” noting that handheld pagers across Lebanon detonated almost in unison.

The incident has heightened tensions in an already fragile region, as Hezbollah has been involved in daily exchanges of fire with Israel since October 2023, in support of its ally Hamas. The escalation followed Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, which triggered the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
