India’s star doubles player, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, has received a positive fitness update ahead of the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi.
In an exclusive conversation with RevSportz, a close source provided an update on Satwik’s recurring shoulder injury and his current recovery.
“He has a small injury in the shoulder,” the source said. “Settles with an injection and rehabilitation for a few months but often recurs. Not significant enough to warrant immediate surgery, but troublesome nonetheless. He may have to bite the bullet someday. He doesn’t want to consider that proposition for now.”
The update clears the picture about Satwik’s condition. Surgery is not required at the moment but the shoulder remains an issue that needs careful management. For the time being, the management has given priority to his rehabilitation.
Incidentally, the problem had forced the former world No. 1 pair to miss important tournaments, despite their title-winning run at the Singapore Open.
Satwik and Chirag Shetty have already established themselves among the world’s best, winning multiple BWF titles and two World Championship bronze medals in 2022 and 2025. The tournament will return to India after 17 years and the expectations will once again be high.
The duo has received a first-round bye and will begin their campaign in the round of 32.
