Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday announced free public entry for the upcoming two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and India in a bid to attract larger crowds for the highly anticipated contest. The first Test will be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, while the second Test is scheduled at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
According to SLC release, spectators can enter the Galle International Cricket Stadium free of charge through Gate No. 4. In Colombo, general spectators will be allowed entry through Gates 3, 4, 5 and 7 at the SSC Ground.
“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to announce that public admission to the upcoming Test Series between Sri Lanka and India will be free of charge, thus providing cricket fans with an excellent opportunity to witness world-class Test cricket,” SLC said in its release.
The decision comes against the backdrop of disappointing crowd turnout during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026. SLC had previously offered free admission for selected fixtures in LPL 2026, including the final matchday of the Dambulla leg on July 26, but overall attendance during the tournament remained below expectations.
With the Indian Test team already in Sri Lanka for a two-Test series, SLC appears keen to ensure a stronger spectator presence at both venues. Test cricket has struggled to attract sizeable crowds across the subcontinent in recent years, with attendance frequently falling short of expectations. Sri Lanka has faced a similar challenge, with even previous India tours witnessing sparsely populated stands.
The decision to waive admission fees is therefore seen as a conscious move by SLC to encourage fans to turn up in greater numbers and create a vibrant atmosphere for one of the most eagerly awaited Test series of the year.
