Two batting powerhouses, Colombo Kaps and Galle Gallants, are set to collide at R. Premadasa Stadium, a venue that has produced high-scoring matches, for a place in the LPL 2026 final.
Galle have dominated the tournament from the very start. In fact, they won both their games against finalists Anchor Jaffna Kings, but in Qualifier 1, they were thumped, with their bowling attack left badly exposed. Dasun Shanaka will have to sort out his bowling unit if Galle are to reach the final. Despite conceding 242 in the last game, Galle fought hard and came close to chasing down the target. This is a batting-heavy side, but better performances with the ball will be expected from Akif Javed, Eshan Malinga, Sachindu Colombage and Tharindu Rathnayake, especially as Colombo bat deep.
Another concern for Galle is the form of Tom Rogers, who has been a major disappointment at the top of the order. They could consider bringing in Nurul Hasan, who has played a considerable amount of T20 cricket.
Colombo, on the other hand, will be pleased with the way they performed in the Eliminator. After losing three early wickets, Colombo’s middle-order came to the rescue. Having international players such as Ben McDermott, Janith Liyanage and James Neesham has been a huge advantage. With the ball, Wanuja Sahan has been a revelation, thanks to his variations. Milan Ratnayake and Shahnawaz Dahani have led the pace attack well, especially with Binura Fernando managing an injury.
In Qualifier 2, it will ultimately come down to the bowling. The side that bowls better is likely to book a place in the final against Jaffna tomorrow.
