New Delhi/Bengaluru, July 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the stone quarry collapse in Karnataka’s Bengaluru Urban district, extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was pained by the tragedy and prayed for the injured. He conveyed his deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives.

The accident occurred at a stone quarry near Madapattana on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where a massive rock collapsed on workers engaged in quarry operations. At least eight workers were killed and several others were injured in the incident, according to officials.

The Karnataka government has ordered an inquiry into the accident, while rescue operations were carried out by police and emergency teams. Preliminary reports indicate the collapse occurred during quarrying operations, with authorities also examining possible safety violations at the site.
