New Delhi, 2nd July: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate a two-day orientation programme for newly elected members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in Kolkata on July 3, aimed at strengthening their understanding of legislative procedures and parliamentary functioning.

The inaugural session will be attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, Speaker Rathindra Bose and other dignitaries.

The programme will feature technical sessions on effective legislative practices, parliamentary customs and conventions, executive accountability, committee systems, legislative procedures, financial business, parliamentary privileges, ethics and the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA).

Organised by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) in collaboration with the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, the initiative aims to familiarise first-time legislators with parliamentary institutions, democratic governance and digital legislative tools.

The programme will conclude on July 4 with a valedictory address by West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi in the Assembly chamber.
