Mumbai: Actor Mahima Makwana has shared how the scenic town of Mussoorie played a significant role in helping her connect with her character, Preeti, in the upcoming series Musafir Cafe. Describing the hill station as “nothing less than magic”, the actor said the experience of exploring the town before filming enabled her to better understand and portray the role.
Mussoorie became an inspiration
Recalling her stay in Mussoorie, Mahima said the town made her feel at home from the moment she arrived.
“Mussoorie is nothing less than magic. It made me feel like I belonged the moment I stepped in. I’ve always felt that I’m a mountain girl! From having momos, to chai, to tiramisu and parathas, Mussoorie was a beauty,” she said.
The actor explained that the serene surroundings and local culture added to the emotional depth of her experience during the shoot.
Finding her character through exploration
Mahima revealed that she arrived in Mussoorie a few days before filming began and used the time to explore the town on her own.
According to the actor, she carried her backpack, put on her earphones and wandered through popular tourist spots while soaking in the beauty of the hill station.
“I took my backpack, put on my earphones and strolled around. I went to the most touristy spots, walked around, got lost in the beauty of the place and actually found Preeti,” she said.
She believes those solitary walks helped her establish a deeper connection with the character she portrays in the series.
Writing is the soul of the show
Mahima credited the show’s writing for making Musafir Cafe a unique project.
She said all three central characters have been crafted with care and emotional depth, making the story stand out.
“The writing, the soul of the show makes it so, so special. All three characters are written exceptionally beautifully. I had a wonderful time working with TTT, Vikrant and my director, Ruchir Arun,” she said.
The actor also appreciated the collaborative atmosphere on set and expressed gratitude to her co-stars and the creative team.

Reflecting on the project, Mahima described Musafir Cafe as an experience that extended beyond acting.
