India captain Shubman Gill showered praises on his bowlers after Men in Blue’s dominant nine-wicket win over Afghanistan in the third ODI in Chennai on Saturday. With the win, India completed a 3-0 cleansweep of the ODI series.
During the post match presentation, the Indian captain who was also named the Player of the Series, praised Gurnoor Brar and Prasidh Krishna for their impact with the new ball. “The first spell bowled by Gurnoor and Prasidh was outstanding to see,” Gill said. “That kind of pace in that weather, you don’t always see but they were amazing. I did want to give them an extra over, but they were pretty exhausted.”
Gill finished as the highest run-scorer in the series, scoring 238 runs in two innings at an average of 238.00 and a strike rate of 135.22 to win the Player of the Series award.
Reflecting on India’s takeaway from the series and team’s preparation for the England tou, Gill said, “A lot of the boxes were ticked in this series. We spoke about keeping the intensity in the middle overs and one thing we spoke about how we can keep making opportunities with the ball in the middle overs and how as batters we can push for extra runs. Going to England the conditions will be a little closer to what we will get in South Africa. So the kind of combination we will want to play there, we hope to have everyone fit. Should be a good contest.”
India will now move to Ireland for a two-match T20I series on June 26 and 28.
