Hyderabad police book father over minor driving MG Cyberster: WATCH

Published:

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police have registered a case against the father of a minor after a video allegedly showing the child driving a luxury electric sports car on the city’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) went viral on social media, triggering widespread concerns over road safety and parental responsibility.

The vehicle involved, an MG Cyberster, has been seized by the police as part of the investigation.

The incident came to light after a video shared on social media appeared to show a child, reportedly under the age of 12, driving the high-performance vehicle on the high-speed expressway.

Viral video prompts police action

Hyderabad traffic authorities said they acted immediately after receiving a complaint through social media regarding the alleged incident.

According to officials, the video was posted by the Instagram page safecars_india, which identified the vehicle using a temporary registration number and alleged that a minor was behind the wheel.

Following the complaint, a team from Rajendranagar Traffic Police was assigned to verify the matter.

After tracing the vehicle, officers located the car, identified the minor and detained the child’s father for questioning.

The vehicle was subsequently taken into police custody.

Case registered against father

According to Rajendranagar Traffic Police officials, a case has been registered against the father under provisions related to:

  • Allowing a minor to drive a motor vehicle
  • Dangerous driving
  • Disobedience of police orders and traffic regulations

Police stated that strict action would be taken in accordance with the law.

Officials emphasised that permitting underage individuals to operate vehicles on public roads constitutes a serious offence and endangers not only the driver but also other road users.

Luxury electric sports car under scrutiny

The vehicle involved in the incident is the MG Cyberster, a premium electric roadster that has attracted attention for its performance capabilities.

The sports car is priced at approximately Rs 75 lakh and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in around 3.2 seconds.

Given the vehicle’s high-performance characteristics, the alleged involvement of a minor driver has intensified concerns regarding public safety.

Road safety experts note that powerful vehicles require experience, judgment and proper training, making underage driving particularly hazardous.

Debate over parental responsibility

The incident has sparked significant discussion on social media regarding the responsibility of parents and guardians in preventing underage driving.

Many users have called for stricter enforcement against individuals who permit minors to operate vehicles, particularly on high-speed roads such as the Outer Ring Road.

Road safety advocates argue that parents play a crucial role in ensuring children understand traffic rules and legal driving requirements.

They also stress that allowing minors behind the wheel can lead to serious accidents and legal consequences.

Legal provisions on underage driving

Under Indian motor vehicle laws, driving without a valid licence is prohibited, and parents or vehicle owners can face legal action if they knowingly permit a minor to operate a vehicle.

Authorities have increasingly adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards underage driving, especially following incidents involving social media content that glorifies unsafe behaviour on public roads.

Traffic police across several cities have also intensified monitoring of violations involving luxury vehicles and juvenile drivers.

Investigation continues

Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities are examining available video footage and other evidence while verifying whether additional traffic violations occurred.

The seized vehicle will remain under police custody pending further legal proceedings.

Conclusion

The Hyderabad incident has once again highlighted the dangers of underage driving and the responsibilities of parents in ensuring road safety. With police registering a case and seizing the luxury sports car involved, the matter serves as a reminder that allowing minors to drive can have serious legal and safety consequences.
