Punjab FC have secured the services of one of their longest-serving players, with Khaimingthang Lhungdim signing a three-year contract extension ahead of the 2026–27 season.
Lhungdim, who joined Punjab FC from NEROCA FC before the 2022–23 campaign, has been an integral part of the club’s setup, which eventually earned promotion to the Indian Super League. The right wing-back played a key role in the club’s historic I-League title-winning season, helping Punjab become the first side to secure promotion to the ISL.
Over the past four seasons, Lhungdim has made 85 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing seven assists while operating in multiple positions. Over the years, he has established himself as one of the best right wing-backs in the country. His consistency and leadership qualities also saw him wear the captain’s armband during the 2025–26 ISL season.
The 2025–26 campaign saw Lhungdim make 12 ISL appearances, providing valuable experience and stability to the back line as Punjab FC continued to strengthen their position in India’s top flight.
Speaking after signing the extension, Lhungdim expressed his deep connection with the club. “This feels like home,” Lhungdim said in a Punjab FC press release, reflecting on his four-year journey with the club. He highlighted winning the I-League title and making his ISL debut as some of the most memorable moments of his career, while stressing that he believes the club’s best days are still ahead.
Punjab FC’s decision to extend Lhungdim’s contract underlines their commitment to maintaining continuity within the squad. The club are looking to build on their best-ever ISL finish from last season.
Lhungdim had attracted interest from other ISL clubs, including Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giant, but the Punjab FC captain chose to stay. Speaking about his decision, he said: “I feel there is so much more to be done. Our best days lie ahead of us. That’s why I’m staying.”
