Noida, 16th June: Noida International Airport achieved a major milestone on Monday as it welcomed its first aircraft, with an IndiGo flight arriving from Lucknow, marking the commencement of flight operations at the much-awaited greenfield airport in Jewar.
IndiGo flight 6E 2278 departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow at 7:12 am and landed at Noida International Airport at 7:58 am, officials said.
Shortly after the historic arrival, the airport witnessed its first departure when an IndiGo flight took off for Lucknow at around 8:19 am.
The inaugural outbound flight carried villagers from the Jewar region whose land was acquired by the Uttar Pradesh government for the first phase of the airport project. The passengers also included Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh and officials of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), including Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Singh, Additional CEO Shailendra Bhatia and former Jewar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhay Singh.
Boost to Regional Connectivity
Officials said the Noida International Airport is expected to significantly improve air connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh, the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining regions.
The new airport will provide additional travel options for business travellers, students, professionals and tourists while supporting economic growth and regional development.
Developed as a Multimodal Hub
The airport has been planned as a modern multimodal transport hub with seamless integration of air travel with road and other transport networks.
The project is expected to play a key role in strengthening infrastructure, attracting investments and accelerating development in the Yamuna Expressway region and surrounding areas.
The successful first landing and takeoff mark a significant step towards the operational readiness of Noida International Airport, one of India’s major upcoming aviation infrastructure projects.
