The Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai League 2026 got underway with a bang at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, combining explosive on-field action with significant star power.
Indian cricket icon Rohit Sharma, the official “Face of the League”, sent crowds into a frenzy when he attended the toss for the day’s second match alongside Mumbai Cricket Association President Ajinkya Naik and League Governing Council Chairman Rajdip Gupta.
After Shardul Thakur opted to field first, the Eagle Thane Strikers’ bowling attack made early inroads.
Thakur set the tone himself by dismissing Prateekkumar Ravishankar for a duck.
What appeared to be a challenging chase of 190 was quickly turned into a masterclass in aggressive batting. Strikers’ openers Shashwat Jagtap and Impact Player Sumeir Zaveri dismantled the Bandra Blasters’ bowling attack, smashing a staggering 93 runs in the Powerplay alone.
The duo forged a match-winning 155-run opening partnership. Zaveri played a blistering knock, hammering 80 runs off just 36 balls before departing. The hero of the chase, however, was Jagtap, who produced a sensational unbeaten century from just 50 deliveries. His remarkable innings guided Thakur’s side to a commanding 194/1 in only 15.2 overs.
The action-packed tournament continues on Tuesday with the historic launch of the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League, with all matches broadcast live on JioHotstar and the Star Sports Network.
