6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Nepal

Published:

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Kathmandu, Nepal, early Friday morning, with the epicenter located along the Kodari Highway in Sindhupalchowk district, about 65 km east of the capital.

The tremors were felt throughout the Kathmandu Valley, but there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Nepal is situated in one of the world’s most active seismic zones, making it highly vulnerable to earthquakes. The country’s worst earthquake to date occurred in 2015, when a 7.8 magnitude quake claimed more than 9,000 lives and caused extensive damage to over a million buildings.

The region remains at significant risk for future seismic events, underscoring the need for continued disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
